The Last Mercury Retrograde of 2024

Mercury Retrograde is happening again! It seems like we can never catch a break from this planetary event. Sure it happens three or four times a year, but that still just feels like too much. As we wrap up the end of 2024, we prepare for the impending Mercury Retrograde November 25th through December 15th. Yes, I said impending!

What is Mercury Retrograde?

The astronomical explanation for retrograde motion starts with understanding that the planets in our solar system orbit the Sun at different distances and speeds. While we orbit the Sun ourselves, we can observe the other planets moving across our sky, following their own paths. When Mercury is in Retrograde, it is orbiting around the Sun backwards.

Why is Mercury Retrograde inconvenient?

Mercury Retrograde can become a pesky nuisance when you start to experience the downsides. These inconveniences can include communication issues, relationship issues, or even problems with agreements. This is because Mercury is the planet of communication. When this planet isn't even rotating in the correct direction, of course our communication and efforts will land wrong! There can also be travel disruptions, such as delayed flights. Mercury Retrograde is notoriously known for causing technology issues, as well as striking mental health issues like anxiety or depression. Be careful not to revert to old patterns during Mercury Retrograde.

Who is most impacted by Mercury Retrograde?

People who are Mercury ruled (those with Gemini and Virgo placements) or those who have Mercury in their Birth Chart will be the most impacted. It’s also not easy to say “all -insert sign here-“ will be affected more intensely, because it all really depends upon the individual natal chart.
